THE MILL HOUSE
QUERETARO, MEXICO
135.00 Sq. meters
The El Molino House, so named because it was to be built on the site of a former mill, was a planned project for a painter and her husband in the city of Queretaro, in central Mexico. The site is at the edge of a small reservoir and the design is oriented to take advantage of that view, while taking into consideration the strucural needs of such a site. The gray concrete of the ceiling and floor is offset by two load-bearing/anchoring walls of blue concrete, which add warmth to the interior while retaining the overall brutalist aesthetic. As in my other designs, the concrete is paired with wood for doors, windows, and trim, because the materials complement each other well.
