Renovation of garage into artist´s live-work space
75.00 Sq. meters
My project here was to renovate the garage and attached servants´quarters of a 1950´s-era apartment building into a comfortable live-work space for an artist, all on a small budget. Because the space was not initially designed to be lived in, light was a major problem. I expanded and improved the circulation of the space by removing a narrow hallway, and opened the kitchen onto the patio with metal-framed bifold doors that can remain open much of the year in Mexico´s agreeable climate. For the wardrobe, bookshelves, and kitchen, I designed sleek and cost-effective metal and wood shelving/cabinetry whose industrial aesthetic adds to the loft´s cozy-yet-utilitarian appeal.
